Oura Ring 5 Gets Thinner, Smarter And More Comfortable To Wear

Oura has unveiled Oura Ring 5, the latest generation of its popular smart ring. While the company is promising improved sensors and longer battery life, the biggest change may be something much simpler: a thinner, lighter design that's intended to be more comfortable to wear around the clock.

The new ring looks familiar at first glance, but Oura says it has redesigned much of the hardware inside. According to the company, Oura Ring 5 is thinner, lighter and available in smaller sizes than previous generations, while also introducing improved sensors and longer battery life.

What's New?

According to Oura, Ring 5 features:

  • A thinner and lighter design
  • New-generation sensors with improved accuracy
  • Smaller size options for a better fit
  • Up to eight days of battery life
  • Enhanced sleep, recovery and activity tracking
  • Improved readiness and health insights through the Oura app

The updated design is intended to make the ring more comfortable to wear day and night, particularly for sleep tracking, which remains one of Oura's core strengths.

Membership Still Required

Like previous generations, Oura Ring 5 requires an Oura Membership subscription to unlock its full suite of health insights and analysis.

New members receive the first month free, after which membership costs $9.99 AUD per month or $109.99 AUD per year.

Australian Availability And Pricing

Oura Ring 5 is available directly from Oura, as well as through Australian retailers including JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman.

Current pricing from the Oura online store is:

  • Silver: $649 AUD
  • Black: $649 AUD
  • Stealth: $799 AUD
  • Brushed Silver: $799 AUD
  • Gold: $799 AUD
  • Deep Rose: $799 AUD

Interestingly, JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman are currently listing the Stealth finish at $649 AUD, making it the same price as the standard Silver and Black models.

For those unsure of their ring size, Oura also offers a sizing kit for $15 AUD. The cost of the kit is then credited towards the purchase of an Oura Ring 5.

Tech That Fits Take

Smart rings have quietly become one of the most interesting categories in wearable technology. While smartwatches continue to add features and grow more complex, Oura has focused on making health tracking less intrusive.

The improvements in Ring 5 aren't flashy, but making the device thinner, lighter and more accurate addresses the things that matter most in a product you're expected to wear 24 hours a day. For existing Oura users, this looks like a meaningful upgrade. For newcomers, it's arguably the most polished smart ring currently available.
