ASUS ROG And Xbox Unveil The Limited-Edition Ally X20 With OLED Display And AR Glasses

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle, a special edition handheld gaming PC created to celebrate the brand's 20th anniversary.

Part of the new ROG Edition 20 collection unveiled at Computex 2026, the bundle combines an upgraded version of the ROG Xbox Ally X with the new ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses.

While the transparent black-and-gold design is clearly aimed at collectors, the X20 also introduces some meaningful hardware upgrades, including a larger OLED display and AMD's latest Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor.

Essentials

  • Limited-edition ROG 20th anniversary handheld
  • 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED display
  • AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor
  • Up to 1400 nits HDR brightness
  • 120Hz refresh rate with FreeSync Premium Pro
  • 24GB LPDDR5X memory
  • 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
  • New TMR joysticks designed to reduce stick drift
  • Bundle Includes ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses
  • Runs Windows 11 with Xbox integration and Game Pass support

The biggest upgrade is the move to a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED display. ROG says the redesigned screen features slimmer bezels while maintaining the same portable footprint, allowing for a larger viewing area without significantly increasing the size of the handheld.

The OLED panel supports HDR with peak brightness of up to 1400 nits, alongside a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision HDR and FreeSync Premium Pro support.

Under the hood is AMD's new Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The chip also includes a dedicated NPU capable of up to 50 TOPS of AI performance.

Designed For Xbox And PC Gaming

Like the standard Ally X, the X20 runs Windows 11 and provides access to multiple PC gaming storefronts.

ROG says its Xbox mode is designed to simplify navigation and provide access to Xbox Game Pass, Battle.net and other PC gaming platforms through a unified gaming library.

The handheld also introduces several hardware refinements, including upgraded TMR joysticks to help reduce stick drift, a redesigned D-pad that can switch between four-way and eight-way inputs, and improved face button ergonomics.

Included In The Bundle

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle includes:

  • ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld gaming PC
  • ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses
  • 3 months of Xbox Game Pass Premium

The included AR glasses function as a wearable large-screen display, allowing users to play games on a virtual display while on the move.

Pricing And Availability

ASUS has announced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle as part of its Edition 20 anniversary collection, though local pricing and Australian availability have yet to be confirmed.

For context, the current ROG Ally X is priced at $1,799 AUD. With upgraded hardware, a collector-focused design and bundled XREAL AR glasses, the Ally X20 is likely to sit at the premium end of the handheld gaming market.

Tech That Fits Take

Limited-edition gaming hardware often focuses on cosmetic changes, but the Ally X20 appears to offer more than just a new paint job. The move to a larger OLED display and the addition of AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor make this a meaningful hardware upgrade over previous Ally models.

The inclusion of AR glasses is also an interesting addition. While wearable displays remain a niche category, bundling them with a handheld gaming PC creates a compelling portable gaming setup that could appeal to frequent travellers and enthusiasts looking for a larger screen experience without carrying a monitor. The downside is that the extra hardware is likely to push the price even higher, which may leave some gamers hoping the handheld is eventually offered as a standalone option.
