Google has announced the Fitbit Air, a tiny new screenless fitness tracker designed for people who find most smartwatches too bulky, distracting or expensive. Instead of adding another glowing screen to your wrist, Fitbit Air focuses on passive health tracking, comfort and long-term wellness insights.
Designed to Stay Out of the Way
Fitbit Air is Fitbit’s smallest tracker yet, with a low-profile screenless design that sits quietly on the wrist rather than trying to dominate it.
Fitbit Air strips things back to passive tracking, pushing deeper insights into the Google Health app instead. It still covers the essentials including:
- 24/7 heart rate monitoring
- Heart rhythm monitoring with Afib alerts
- SpO2 tracking
- Resting heart rate
- Heart rate variability
- Sleep stage tracking
- Automatic workout detection
…but without needing to constantly interact with a display.
Wearable tech that quietly fades into the background is becoming increasingly appealing.
Designed for 24/7 Wear
Comfort is clearly a bit part of the Fitbit Air's design.
Google says Fitbit Air weighs just 12g with the band attached, with up to a week of battery life and fast charging that delivers a full day of power in five minutes. Google also positions it as a companion device for Pixel Watch users who may prefer a lighter tracker for sleep.
Google Health and Coaching
Google also announced the new Google Health app, which comes in free and premium tiers. The optional Premium subscription adds Gemini-powered coaching, personalised wellness insights and adaptive workout plans, with Fitbit Air including a three-month trial.
Band Options
- Active Band - A sweatproof silicone option aimed at workouts and outdoor activity.

- Performance Loop Band - A lightweight recycled fabric band included in the box, designed for everyday comfort and breathability.

- Elevated Modern Band - A more fashion-focused bracelet-style option designed to blend in with everyday outfits rather than looking overtly sporty.

It’s a subtle shift that makes Fitbit Air feel more like a wearable accessory than a traditional fitness tracker.

Tech That Fits Take
Fitbit Air keeps the health tracking, but removes many of the distractions that come with modern smartwatches. It quietly collects the health data most people care about, while leaving the coaching side of things up to you.
